Whimwood: Award Winners Steve Johnstone and Maree Tinker.

They were awarded the Shire of Boyup Brook Best Blackwood Valley White Table Wine at the 2014 Blackwood Valley and WA Boutique Wine Show held in Bridgetown on October 23-25.

Owners Steve Johnstone and Maree Tinker had a great 2013 vintage with their chardonnay, also snaffling in September 85 points in the nationwide 2014 James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge.

White Gate Winery and Nannup Ridge were also featured at the show with White Gate receiving a Bronze medal for their 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and Nannup Ridge with Bronzes for their 2013 Shiraz, 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 Cabernet Merlot and 2011 Firetower Cabernet Sauvignon.

Now in its 12th year, the Festival showcases local Blackwood Valley producers as well as Boutique wineries from across the State who crush less than 250 tonnes of fruit per year.

It is the only show in WA that caters for the smaller producer and continues to grow each year, developing its reputation and attracting high quality judges who assess the wines to Australian Standards.

The Blackwood Valley’s rich, loamy soil coupled with moderate climate temperatures of warm days and cool evenings is the perfect combination for WA’s Chardonnay and Shiraz varieties, giving them a unique flavour and aroma. All of these beautiful local Nannup wines are available from Nannup Liquor Store and Nannup Bridge Café.
